Tilden Park Golf Course

Notorious for its hills and natural setting, Tilden is a Bay Area favorite that got both a facelift and drainage upgrades. The front nine offers fairly forgiving (if strenuous) situations, but things get hairier on the back nine, which starts with a vertigo-inducing crow's nest of a tee that recalls Olympic ski jumps, followed by narrower fairways and a definite potential for trouble. Greens and fairways are lush and well-tended.

Course Profile :

This course has many hills that can cause uneven lies and trees that can affect your shots. One stream comes into play on a couple of holes, including #16, a 206-yard, par 3, which calls for a tee shot over the stream. The Bay Regional Golf Tournament is held on this course every year. There is a separate green fee rate for Friday's.

The Experience:

Nestled in the valleys of Berkeley's Tilden Regional Park, the course can offer more than the standard share of natural encounters. An entire family of deer may serve as a critical gallery for your missed birdie putt and a stereophonic chorus of birds is a constant. Occasional redwood clusters are embedded among the pine and eucalyptus that line the valley.
