Tucked between the Monterey Bay Inn and Fisherman’s Wharf, San Carlos Beach was named after the San Carlos Canning Company, a prominent landmark during Monterey’s sardine boom of the early 20th Century. After the cannery burned in 1956, this land was turned into a public park and beach. Its calm, shallow water make it a great place for scuba instruction, while the abundance of marine critters makes it a popular place for photographers and sightseers. If the tide is low, you’ll have fun exploring the tide pools.
